MA-1
By BEDWIN & THE HEART BREAKERS x KIPSSO
BEDWIN & THE HEART BREAKERS and the artist KIPSSO release an MA-1 on 24 October, built on a specific piece of British style history rather than on the flight jacket in general.
The model is the so-called "BUFFALO JACKET". In 1980s Britain, the members of BUFFALO, the creative collective formed around Ray Petri, wore the MA-1 as a uniform. Barry Kamen, an artist and stylist who was one of its central figures, died in 2015. His project is how the two sides of this collaboration met: KIPSSO went to the studio to lend accessories for a shoot, and BEDWIN's designer, Watanabe, asked him to take on the styling. The relationship started there.
BEDWIN & THE HEART BREAKERS is a Tokyo label, and KIPSSO is the artist behind ATTITUDE, a series of handmade badges and objects he calls ATTITUDE TALISMANS. The jacket turns that story into a product.
It comes in two versions. The regular model includes an original pin badge. The special model carries a one-off ATTITUDE TALISMANS made by KIPSSO and attached by hand, so no two are the same. Both share the same construction: a black outer shell with a red satin lining.
To mark the launch, ARCD STORE in Jiyugaoka will host a release event and a KIPSSO pop-up. The jacket is handled by DLX, and further information is available on the BEDWIN website. The source does not give a price.
