THE PURSE
THE PURSE is a Japanese bag and wallet brand operated by Nishikawa Shoten, a leather company based in Osaka. Its product range is built around handbags, totes, small leather goods and a few lightweight fabric bags, organised into material-led collections including glass leather, soft leather, coated canvas and double-layer tulle mesh. The brand defines its work through a simple, basic design language and presents bags as products shaped as much by structure as by surface. The making is central to the proposition. Nishikawa Shoten has a long background in leather wholesale, bag production and OEM manufacturing, and THE PURSE draws directly on that technical base. The site specifies several distinct material systems: soft cowhide formed with twisted handles; coated canvas finished by hand and sealed with urethane; nylon monofilament tulle mesh constructed in a double layer; and glass leather made from European hides, selected for high flex resistance as well as gloss. This emphasis on handling difficult materials gives the products their character. What distinguishes THE PURSE is not novelty of silhouette alone but a manufacturer’s approach to refinement. The brand sits within Japan’s bag culture yet comes from a company with more than a century in leather and production, giving it an unusually direct link between material sourcing, factory knowledge and finished design. Rather than treating bags as accessories first, it approaches them as constructed objects whose proportions and surfaces are resolved through fabrication.

How to buy

  1. 01

We buy and ship it for you

THE PURSE doesn't ship abroad. Honmono can order in Japan on your behalf and forward it to you — one contact, one invoice, no Japanese address needed.

  2. 02

    Use a dedicated proxy service

A proxy such as Buyee or ZenMarket gives you a Japanese address, buys the item and forwards it. Cheaper than a concierge, but expect forwarding fees, a longer wait and customs on arrival.

  3. 03

    Buy it while in Japan

Buy direct from the official shop or a Japanese retailer while you're there — tax-free at most stores on presentation of your passport.
