Post O'Alls — Post Overalls — was started in Manhattan in 1992 by Takeshi Ohfuchi and made its official debut at the MAGIC trade show in January 1993, with a first season for autumn/winter 1993. The idea has not moved since: pre-war American workwear, proposed in the mood of the moment. Ohfuchi had moved to New York in 1987, dealing in vintage and studying production management at the Fashion Institute of Technology. At a time when pre-war workwear was barely known, he took dead-stock garments apart to recover what the industry had dropped for the sake of efficiency — side-seam gussets, pullover shirts, chin straps, the old ways of cutting a pattern, the right thread and the right machine — and then added what vintage never had, designing even the puckering and creasing a garment shows once it has been worn and washed. The coverall jacket is the centre of the line, and of Ohfuchi's own collection, gathered over four decades. The brand now runs from Tokyo, with its own shops in Nakameguro and Shibuya.
